The book immediately draws us into the story and stuns us with the opening scene. Then the pace slows down so we can ponder what lies behind the grand facades and what lurks behind the rusty fences. Karola brought painful experiences from her old home, but she seems to have dealt with them. Or has she? She is thirty-three and follows the instincts we all have. After tragedies that seemingly do not touch her, she undergoes a catharsis. However, this purification does not come without sacrifices.
