Description
The first two-thirds of the eighteenth century belong to a relatively neglected period in Czech literary history. Preachers tried to educate and spiritually guide their listeners: they used various formal and content-related means to gain their lasting attention, thoughtfully appealing to their emotions, while also wanting to entertain them. The modern accessibility of sermons will present Baroque literature and culture in a somewhat different light than we have known so far. The selection of texts is narrowed down to sermons in the Czech language, containing speeches from the postils of Račín, Nitsch, Axlar, Bilovský, Veselý, Damascena Mark, Kelský, Koniáš, Pellischotti, Táborský, and Fabriti.
