Description
The phenomenon of Josef Gočár is another of the architectural phenomena of the first half of the 20th century. Gočár truly stands out among our architects like the tower of his St. Wenceslas Church in Vršovice. He is a creator who changed styles several times throughout his life, or rather, he created them. The critics did not always applaud him for it, but the buildings remained, and today we cannot imagine the appearance of modern Prague, Hradec Králové, or Pardubice without them. He left a deep mark on Czech artistic and community life not only as an architect but also as an organizer and initiator, supporting activities with the strength of his personality that probably would not have existed without him.
