The incidence of diabetes is skyrocketing not only in developed countries. The late complications of diabetes and their consequences represent one of the greatest burdens on medicine worldwide and contribute to very high morbidity and mortality among patients. Diabetology is a rapidly evolving field that focuses on the care of type 1 diabetics using the latest technologies for measuring glucose and delivering insulin to the body, as well as the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes, for whom several new drug classes have emerged in the last 10 years. The book comprehensively and critically describes and evaluates the latest diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for individual complications of diabetes – it does not overlook the use of artificial intelligence in screening for diabetic retinopathy and the latest treatment strategies, including anti-VEGF therapy. In terms of diabetic kidney disease, it discusses in detail the benefits of recent medications such as SGLT-2 inhibitors and finerenone. The diabetic foot syndrome and diabetic neuropathy are clearly described using new insights from the global consensus on diabetic foot.
