The monograph comprehensively introduces the reader to the issue of seating in a wheelchair. It connects two completely different fields – medicine and technology – so that by adequately utilizing technology, the movement, psychological, work, and social potential of the wheelchair user is maximized. The health situation that leads to mobility in a wheelchair is usually medically multidisciplinary. The reader will learn how to clinically examine and assess the condition of a person sitting in a wheelchair, their balance, stability, support needs, and other parameters important when selecting and prescribing a new wheelchair or when checking the seating in an already existing one. The language of medicine is translated into the language of technology, so that the symptoms of improper seating are not addressed, but rather the causes. The publication also deals with inappropriate wheelchair settings, which can lead to complications such as pain, worsening spasticity, postural pathologies, and the development of pressure sores, which lead to a decline in quality of life, inability to participate in the job market, and increased dependence on assistance. Separate chapters focus on training the user in the ergonomics of wheelchair driving, the specifics of seating in a wheelchair for various diagnoses, and communication with the wheelchair supplier and health insurance company.
