The diseases in this book have one thing in common – a high total protein value as a result of excessive production of immunoglobulins, both polyclonal and monoclonal. The book focuses on diseases accompanied by increased levels of polyclonal immunoglobulins – Castleman disease, IgG4-associated disease, idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis, and Rosai-Dorfman disease. All four diagnoses may share some common features, including the immunohistochemical detection of plasma cells bearing IgG4 subclass immunoglobulin on their surface, which is why a lot of attention is paid to differential diagnosis.
