Description
Ava has always loved the smell of old books that hide stories and wisdom of the past within their yellowed pages. She could never imagine leaving her dream job at the Library of Congress. However, everything changes during the war. An unexpected offer from the American army brings her to Portugal with a new task: to pose as a librarian in Lisbon while secretly working as a spy. Meanwhile, in occupied France, Elaine starts working in a printing shop run by members of the resistance. All the workers know that the Nazis are searching for the printing shop and want to destroy it. In their world filled with hunger and danger, a young Jewish woman appears, having escaped arrest with her child. Elaine decides to do whatever it takes to save them and secretly encodes a message into the upcoming newspapers. She can only hope that someone will be able to discover and decipher it. While war rages in Europe, Ava and Elaine are united in their effort to save a woman with a small boy and the last remnants of hope in the face of danger.
