Description
Hemostasis represents one of the mechanisms that maintain the integrity of the internal environment. Disruption of hemostatic balance can lead to a bleeding condition on one hand and a thrombophilic state on the other. Given the mortality associated with thrombosis and embolism, these are feared pathological states, and anticoagulant and antithrombotic therapy is crucial in many medical fields. These medications are among the most prescribed, yet there may still be concerns among physicians regarding their side effects and drug interactions. However, bleeding conditions, whether from vascular (purpura) or platelet causes, are also feared. Hemostasis disorders most commonly develop in hospitalized patients, but primary care and outpatient physicians may encounter the first symptoms and should be able to diagnose them in a timely manner. The monograph by experienced author, Associate Professor Petr Dulíček, is sufficiently detailed yet practically and clinically oriented, without overwhelming the reader with unnecessary theoretical details. It provides good orientation in practice and a useful source of information for undergraduate and postgraduate education. It is useful for internists, surgeons, intensivists, gynecologists and obstetricians, cardiologists, hematologists, but also for general practitioners...
