Description
Countless books have been dedicated to the interpretation and description of the events of World War II. Yet new ones continue to emerge: the perspective on events that are over eighty years old is constantly evolving, and opinions vary. Among politicians and in society at large, we still find many who continue to refer to World War II in defense of their positions. It remains true that our civilization has never before experienced a conflict of such magnitude; moreover, this war also allowed for one of the most tragic chapters in human history, the Holocaust. Israeli-German historian Dan Diner offers in his latest book a perspective that could be interesting for Czech readers: he recounts events in Jewish and Arab Palestine in the second half of the 1930s and during World War II, where, although no battles were fought between the Allies and the Axis, there was no less fierce fighting over the future of both the Jewish and Arab communities. However, Diner does not limit himself to a chronology of events: he describes World War II through the lens of the 'South,' that is, from a different place than we Europeans are accustomed to. From the perspective of Palestine, the truly global nature of this conflict stands out, where everything was interconnected. We will see battlefields and events literally from all over...
