The monograph by a collective of authors from various fields of laboratory and clinical medicine provides an overview of the most commonly indicated laboratory markers, their pathophysiological consequences, and clinical interpretation – a guide on how to understand laboratory results. The authors draw from their long-standing real laboratory and clinical practice. The text is divided into two main parts: general and special. The general part includes a brief description of the pre-analytical phase, that is, the factors that can affect the quality of the result before the actual measurement. In the subsequent main section, individual sets of laboratory tests are processed, including hematological, biochemical, serological, immunological, and microbiological examinations. For clarity and better comprehensibility, the book is presented in the form of short texts, tables, and graphs. In the special part, the mentioned markers are interpreted within the framework of complex case studies.
