Increasing scientific evidence confirms that spirituality and religion have a beneficial effect on human health. Therefore, it is very important that we approach the spiritual and religious needs of individuals in healthcare practice with great care, appropriate knowledge, sensitivity, and compassion. Holistic, patient-centered care should also include attention to the spiritual dimension. It should be based on scientific evidence, fundamental knowledge about spirituality, religiosity, its positive and negative effects on health, and the skills necessary for assessment, clinical decision-making, and problem-solving during the provision of everyday care. The aim of the monograph is a comprehensive and systematic treatment of the issues of spirituality and religiosity – from defining theoretical foundations to interpreting the results of scientific research and implications in clinical practice.
