Description
The book summarizes the latest interdisciplinary findings in the diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment, and clinical research of idiopathic inflammatory bowel diseases. The text is supplemented by the authors' own clinical experiences, particularly regarding a unique cohort of patients with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis treated with biological therapy. The book builds on the previous monograph by Professor Milan Lukáš and his team and is intended for doctors from various fields who encounter patients with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis in their practice. Only entirely new chapters, developed by top authors, are included. Individual chapters introduce innovations in diagnostic methods, such as computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, and in pharmacological treatment. An important issue is the question of interdisciplinary collaboration in the diagnosis and treatment of extraintestinal manifestations of bowel inflammation affecting the musculoskeletal system and eyes. A separate chapter addresses psychiatric issues, obesity, laboratory markers of disease activity, and prognosis. The chapters dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of short bowel syndrome and certain post-resection conditions also have an interdisciplinary scope. The book will appeal to doctors in the fields of gastroenterology, internal medicine, surgery, immunology...
