Serious aortic diseases, such as aneurysms or aortic dissections, if not treated promptly and adequately, often have devastating consequences for their carriers. The occurrence of these diseases cannot be considered rare; aortic aneurysms occur in 4-9% of patients over 50 years old, and the annual incidence of dissections is reported at 10 per 100,000 inhabitants. Therefore, most doctors will encounter them during their professional lives. Nevertheless, there is still no book available for Czech readers that comprehensively summarizes current knowledge on this issue. The monograph by Associate Professor Rohn, Professor Grus, and the authorial team summarizes findings from anatomy, pathophysiology, diagnostic methods, and treatment procedures and algorithms from the perspective of cardiovascular surgery and invasive radiology. It deals in detail with individual pathologies in separate chapters, which are categorized by location in the case of aneurysms, namely ascending, aortic arch, and thoracoabdominal aorta, and in the case of dissections, it focuses on classifications and then on type A and B dissections.
