The number of people diagnosed with dementia, including Alzheimer's disease, is increasing every year, as are the costs incurred for its treatment. Therefore, the authors focused not only on prevention but also on financially less demanding non-pharmacological treatments. Researchers have always assumed that, in addition to pharmacotherapy, activation, kindness, environmental adjustments, and other methods, particularly those experienced by non-medical care staff, are useful. These methods have long been considered effective and beneficial, but not particularly stimulating. There are several non-pharmacological approaches. The therapist selects from a range of options, taking into account the patient's age, stage of the disease, and gender, which is why it is essential to emphasize an individualized approach. Basic non-pharmacological methods include dietary therapy, psychotherapy, art therapy, music therapy, and occupational therapy. Until a drug to eliminate the cause of the disease becomes available, we are reliant on existing treatment methods, which include both pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
