Description
The name comes from the English word restore, which means to renew, heal, or restore balance. Unlike the often dynamic and physically demanding poses of hatha yoga or ashtanga yoga, the positions are held for a longer time and specifically help with rest and relaxation. This form of yoga is also suitable during recovery from injury or illness, can help overcome mild depression and anxiety, and cope with traumatic events. This yoga is also suitable during menstruation and pregnancy. In restorative yoga, positions use props (pillows, blocks, straps, bolsters, blankets, or even chairs) to support and prop up the body. The principles of using props are described in detail in the book.
