Description
This Czech-language comedy follows a man who cannot resist misleading radio listeners by posing as other people, fooling not only the audience but also the editors themselves. Zdeněk Svěrák says he was fascinated by fraudsters and hoaxers, and wrote about them for so long that he eventually settled on the hoax involving Jára Cimrman. The Messenger of the Hydrometeorological Institute of the Academy of Sciences was recorded for radio twice, but in the 1970s the first version was destroyed on orders from above after director Jan Fuchs was blacklisted. The story appears in book form for the first time. As a bonus, the volume includes an expanded wordplay piece about two people travelling by train, whose title sounds like the beginning of a joke. It reflects its author’s experience as a rural teacher and his love of Fráňa Šrámek. Two passengers, and everything that can happen between them.
