In today's world, where inclusion in education has become one of the hot topics, it is increasingly important to familiarize both professionals and the wider public with the specifics of the personalities of students and clients with intellectual disabilities. The publication addresses both the necessary clarification of terminology and the legal framework regarding the status of individuals with intellectual disabilities, their diagnosis, education, and the social services provided to them. The text is based on current legislative standards and three basic stratification systems that are gradually being implemented in the field of healthcare (ICF - International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health), in social services (SIS - Support Intensity Scale), and in (special) education and counseling (Catalogs for assessing special educational needs and Catalogs of support measures).
