Description
The book is divided into chapters according to work procedures: it starts with purchasing, drying, and storing wood, followed by technological processes (sanding, splitting, chiseling, cutting, turning, joining, and surface protection) and a description of workshop equipment and suitable tools. Each chapter is supplemented with practical advice. In the conclusion, the author advises how to involve children in making a stand for a Christmas tree, a theater, and puppets, as well as how to joyfully create jewelry, wooden toys, a sandbox, or a stool. The author, MARTIN PATŘIČNÝ, an artist-woodworker, book author, and storyteller, learned the craft privately from his uncle, a carver and turner. He has been fully dedicated to artistic work with wood since 1988. He has organized several Wooden Evenings – discussions and performances with poetry and live music. Together with Václav Větvička and Hana Hegerová, he declared Tree Day (first held on October 20, 2000). Martin Patřičný is a co-author of the script and guide for the 26-part television documentary A Piece of Wood from the Tree, directed by Bedřich Ludvík. He has participated in over a hundred exhibitions both domestically and abroad.
