The unconventional biography of Pavel Kopp, an electrical engineer, photographer, educator, civil servant, businessman, and diplomat, knight of the Order of the Star of Italy, who was a long-time friend of actor Miroslav Horníček. Together, they published the popular book Moments with Italy, about the country from which the author's ancestors come and where he himself spent a total of eight years as a businessman and diplomat. Throughout his long life, he met many other interesting personalities, such as Pope John Paul II, President Václav Havel, Jan Werich, Josef Sudek, Eliška Junková, František Nepil, Karel Gott, Anna Fárová, Pavel Smetáček, Olbram Zoubek, and František Xaver Halas. He also witnessed a number of pivotal events in our recent history, from the liberation of his native Plzeň by the American army, through the communist coup in 1948, the entry of 'friendly' Warsaw Pact troops in 1968, and the Velvet Revolution in 1989, to the division of Czechoslovakia in 1992/1993, when he personally, as a diplomat, divided the Czechoslovak embassy in Rome with his Slovak colleague. The book was published in the spring of 2021 on the occasion of the author's eightieth birthday, has 510 pages, and includes 115 black-and-white and color photographs.
