Description
One of the founders of family therapy, Virginia Satir, presents in this book a structured view of family, communication, and therapy. The author starts from the assumption that individuals can only be understood and treated within a social context, primarily within the context of the family. She considers the family to be a system composed not only of individual members but, above all, of the relationships between them. Therapy should therefore focus on the way communication occurs among the people who make up the family. In order for change to occur in an individual, who often exhibits the unhealthy arrangement of the family, it is necessary to address the entire relational system and context and to change it. The author is convinced that the client is an equal partner who does what they can in the given situation, and the therapist uses their personality and expertise to awaken the client's own resources and mechanisms leading to healing.
