Description

There are two perspectives on St. Thérèse of Lisieux. The first sees the typical piety and spirituality of the 19th century, often resembling a cabinet of Catholic curiosities, full of figurines, holy images, artificial flowers, and dreamy letters drawn into the albums of her four biological sisters. The second perspective requires a deep dive and a filter of time that removes all trivialities and focuses on what is essential: Thérèse's trust in God, which springs from the pure source of the Gospel, from the spiritual genius of a child who overnight became an adult, a mature Christian at Christmas 1886. The book by an experienced author of spiritual literature discusses both the external and internal conditions of her transformation and also why the spirituality of this fragile and ailing Carmelite, who lived hidden in a contemplative monastery in Lisieux for just nine years, remains increasingly relevant. It speaks of the roses that have been blooming one after another for 150 years since her birth, and of the immediacy of trust, which is something much more than faith. The book is accompanied by poems by Miloš Doležal. Zdeněk Jančařík is a Salesian, priest, and author of spiritual literature. His books, including The Shroud of Turin, The Beloved of the Lord, A Woman Should Speak in the Church, and Fresh Water for..., have been published by Portál.
