Description
The book is an introduction to the so-called Internal Family Systems (IFS), which is now one of the recognized psychotherapeutic approaches. IFS challenges the notion of a unified identity and emphasizes the existence of different parts within a person (e.g., inner child, inner critic, inner saboteur). These parts are somewhat independent of each other, and it depends on the coherence of our self whether we can form a sufficiently balanced and managed whole from them. One of the author's fundamental ideas is that these parts are never pathological in themselves, even though they may contribute to an individual's disruption. Many of them developed during the individual's childhood as a defense mechanism, and when we relieve them of their burdens, they can once again become what they essentially are – our helpers. IFS is a suitable approach, for example, for working with traumas, addictions, depression, or anxiety. The book, written by the founder of this approach, presents basic procedures for working with IFS, examples from therapeutic conversations, and a number of exercises.
