This is a book about children living in institutional care – about the good work done with them and the bad work done with them, about their stories, about the decisions of adults, and about possible better choices. The reader will find anonymized but real stories of children, a basic theoretical (professional) minimum, and direct quotes from the child heroes themselves. Such quotes can inspire or perhaps help someone open their eyes and realize that even the 'bad spoiled brat' has reasons for their bad behavior. It can be a cry of dissent, resistance, and disgust towards certain people the child has encountered. Likewise, the book expresses deep admiration and gratitude to some individuals working in this field. The book is honest and raw – it names things and situations with real words and real feelings, not seeking catchy phrases or politically correct descriptions. And although the title of the book is vulgar (and the reader will soon understand why after reading a few pages), the book is not sensationalist in a cheap way, but rather firmly grounded in field practice as well as professional psychological, psychotherapeutic, and educational backgrounds.
