Description
Gábi is an ordinary and happy girl living an ordinary and content life in a small town somewhere in Slovakia. However, her life changes very quickly. World War II has begun in Europe. One day, the Nazis arrive in her hometown and are looking for young girls. Gábi finds herself in real mortal danger. She must hide immediately... Through simple storytelling, the author follows the changes in the daily life of a Jewish family and describes the gradual deterioration of their living conditions during World War II (forced school segregation, school closures, curfews, the breakdown of friendships, and generally social ties, etc.), all presented with hope and faith in better times. The book is intended for readers aged 9 to 13 and draws on the real experiences of the author's mother, who recounts a time when playing hide and seek was not just a children's game.
