The cyclical process of searching for a usable, fulfilling, modern female identity accompanies us throughout our lives. This famous, repeatedly published book about this journey, enriched with many specific stories, works with Jungian archetypes, myths, and dreams. It deals with redefining female identity after a woman ('the heroine') has identified with the masculine side of her personality and feels the need to integrate both parts into an authentic whole. The journey is divided into several phases: rejecting stereotypical femininity as dependent, controlling, and full of rage; immersing oneself in the familiar 'heroine's journey' with the help of male allies, aimed at gaining independence, success, money, prestige, power, and achievement; a 'dry period' followed by a descent into the depths in search of the darker side of femininity. This leads to an understanding of the need to heal the discord between mother and daughter, a new determination and validation of feminine skills, and their integration with the masculine side from the earlier phase of the journey.
