Description
The book is a collection of transcripts from three workshops that took place at the famous Esalen Institute in 1968. In them, Perls vividly demonstrates what gestalt is: the whole of human experience, into which therapy aims to reintegrate all the thoughts, perceptions, and emotions that we have previously separated from ourselves. The first part of the book contains four lectures in which Perls clearly and simply explains the fundamental ideas that he believes form the philosophy and methodology of gestalt therapy. This is followed by recordings of a seminar on dreams. Perls' main intention here is not to analyze the dream but to relive it. The final part records several consecutive individual sessions with one person as well as a group meeting. Here, Perls tries to capture additional aspects of gestalt therapy that are not so apparent from the previous sections. The book is a fundamental testimony to how the founder practiced gestalt therapy.
