Description
Suicide is undoubtedly a taboo subject. No other cause of death evokes so much shame, regret and misunderstanding, and many myths about suicide therefore persist. In this book, a recognised expert on suicide examines these myths from a scientific perspective. The book considers nine beliefs, including “It is better not to talk about suicide,” “Someone who thinks about suicide wants to die,” “The media influence the number of suicides in society,” “Antidepressants increase the risk of suicide,” “Artists are more prone to suicide,” “Women talk about suicide more often, while men die from it more often,” and “More people kill themselves during the holidays.” Some of these statements are disproved as myths, while for others, science offers no definitive answer. The contents are in Czech. The book is intended for anyone who wants to better understand people who want to kill themselves, as well as for professionals who wish to communicate appropriately with their clients about this subject.
