I am Tomáš Svátek. I have such a peculiar name, and perhaps that's why I've been interested in all kinds of celebrations and holidays since I was little. I keep a diary about all of them. Really! For example, what it's like to celebrate the Year of the Dragon in China or when the cherry blossoms bloom in Japan, how Europeans roll cheese or burn witches, how Spaniards dress in flowers, how Mexicans rejoice during the Day of the Dead, what holidays look like in warm Australia, a war dance in New Zealand, or conversely, a celebration among Eskimos or crazy festivities on both American continents. I already know when the whole of India smells of spices or how incredibly dusty it gets under the feet of many dancers in Africa. And you wouldn't believe how often such ordinary things as fire, water, and food are celebrated. And into what all we humans can dress up. Some celebrations are just for fun, while others have been around for hundreds of years. If you want, you can read my diary and maybe even have a celebration at home. Really!
