Description

The book 'Man, as He Is' is considered Adler's seminal work and a sort of textbook on individual psychology. In it, Adler presents his fundamental ideas in an understandable way, concerning, for example, the inferiority complex and the drive for power, the influence of society on the development of the individual, the relationship between men and women, and sibling constellations. In the second part of the book, the author focuses on describing character and interpreting some specific character traits. Adler provides guidance on how to shape one's everyday relationships and expresses his belief that a person is a being capable of making decisions, is responsible for their behavior, and can change if necessary. The book is being published in Czech after more than 80 years. Alfred Adler (1870–1937) was born in a Jewish merchant family in a suburb of Vienna. He became a physician and, after an initial inclination towards psychoanalysis, parted ways with Freud and founded his own school of individual psychology. He is best known for his essay on the connection between feelings of inferiority and the drive for power, which was partly influenced by his own physical disability. He authored more than 300 books and articles on human relationships, education, and psychotherapy. He died in Aberdeen, Scotland.
