Rodina - Poklad naší doby – Gilbert Guy (2018)

Another book by Guy Gilbert deals with the topic of family. It is among the newest, reflecting the current perspective on family as influenced by Pope Francis through his speeches and initiatives. In this sense, Gilbert shows himself to be someone who has accurately understood Francis's emphases and considerations. Although Gilbert comes from a very traditional family (with 15 siblings), his views on family and related topics are infused with realism and an understanding of how complicated the matter is. Gilbert goes through several main areas – the question of partnership between two people who should be the foundation of a family; parenthood and the relationship with children; the role of grandparents in the family; the issue of homosexuality and their cohabitation; the problem of passing on faith within the family. In all areas, his wise perspective and unconventional straightforwardness are evident. He warns against hasty marriages at all costs, admits the reception of the Eucharist for some divorced and remarried individuals, acknowledges the cohabitation of homosexual couples, etc. For Gilbert, family is a treasure trove from which one can draw significant strength for life, but it also requires careful nurturing. Without trivializing the emotional dimension of the matter, he emphasizes the joint effort of all involved.
