Description

Mariel Hemingway, granddaughter of the famous writer Ernest Hemingway, writes movingly about growing up knowing that her parents suffered from depression and were addicted to medication, that her sister was mentally ill, and that her grandfather had committed suicide several months before her birth. She describes a childhood and youth spent in a family blessed with talent and fame but marked by depression, alcoholism, schizophrenia, cancer and suicide. As a girl, Mariel herself suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder and experienced eating problems. Addressing young readers and teenagers directly, she seeks to convince them that life has meaning despite pain, that a family curse can be overcome, and that everyone may eventually see light at the end of the tunnel. The contents are in Czech.
