Description
Twenty-two-year-old Cécile, who works as a maid in a small guesthouse in Nice, is used to a lot, but she has never taken care of such a peculiar guest before. He seems completely immune to her charms, obsessively writing some completely incomprehensible texts, suffering from terrible headaches – and yet now and then he starts behaving incredibly frivolously and cheerfully. Cécile later understands that this strange man named Nietzsche intends to achieve great things – and she would like to help him. Based on real events and biographical facts related to Nietzsche's stay in Nice, the fateful city where he wrote significant parts of his fundamental work Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Christian Schärf weaves a clever, witty, and readable novel. The text includes phrases from letters Nietzsche wrote between 1886 and 1890, which adds authenticity to the novel. The author paints a careful and convincing portrait of the famous philosopher, illuminating various aspects of his character – presenting him as a misunderstood, lost, mad, genius – and above all, free.
