What people should learn from the dying. On Death and Dying is one of the most famous psychological studies of the late 20th century, which has helped to de-taboo the topic of death. It is the author's 'flagship' work, in which she seeks to provide information that can improve the care of terminally ill patients. In the book, the author first presents her famous five-stage model of coping with death (and later any tragic life event), which includes denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Through examples of conversations, the author shows how the experience of approaching death affects the patient, the professionals working with them, and their family, while striving to bring hope, reconciliation, and peace of mind to all. The book, in which the author adopts a partnership approach to the dying, can serve as an ethical manual for healthcare professionals.
