Description
The publication builds on the Overview of Statistical Methods by Jan Hendl and demonstrates the wide application of statistics and statistical methods in various fields and areas of human life. The first five chapters present a simply structured textbook on the basics of collecting, analyzing, and interpreting statistical data. The authors of the subsequent chapters describe how statistics is used in state governance, economics, pedagogy, social sciences, medicine, natural sciences, and sports. They define the specific application area, describe the statistical tasks encountered within it, show what specific outputs statistics can produce in the given field, and what data manipulations may occur. Emphasis is placed on the clarity of the explanation. Examples are selected to illustrate factual relationships in specific problem situations using numbers and graphs. The book, which only assumes high school-level knowledge of mathematics, is supplemented with many tables and illustrations. The appendices, in addition to statistical tables, contain recommendations for teaching statistics, principles of state statistics, and principles for working with Big Data sets.
