Description

The book attempts to connect the anatomy of the human body with the realm of emotions. Keleman describes the individual form and shape of the human body as a result of the dynamic interaction between genetically determined shapes and a person's emotional story, as a continuing process that involves emotions, thoughts, and experiences. The first part of the book deals with the emergence and organization of the human body, whose form is altered by personal emotional history, the imprints of love and disappointment, insults and attacks, challenges, and stresses. The second part of the book describes four basic models of bodily response to suffering - rigidity, thickening, swelling, collapse - showing how they function and suggesting possibilities for change. Life challenges and individual responses to them shape the bodily form through which a person expresses feelings of excitement, the need for self-assertion, love, sexuality, care. These feelings are the foundation of interpersonal relationships and the possibility of life in human community. The interpretation is accompanied by 120 illustrations.
