Description
The publication presents the Czech national patron against the backdrop of legends and credible historical facts, follows the transformations of his cult over a thousand-year history, and describes the more than thirty-year-long peripeties of the creation of the monument in Wenceslas Square, focusing on its creator, Josef Václav Myslbek. A separate chapter presents the charisma of the monument in the 20th century, in which it served as a 'mythical gathering place' where people met even despite the bans of totalitarian regimes. The text is accompanied by a foreword by Cardinal Dominik Duka. The book is richly equipped with contemporary and archival photographs.
