Hory, má panenko – Jaroš Radek (2011)

Radek Jaroš, the author of successful books 'Conquering the Sky' and 'Mountains from Above', is currently the most famous Czech mountaineer, having climbed twelve eight-thousand-meter peaks across four continents. The new publication 'Oh My God, the Mountains' shows this top athlete through the eyes of his daughter, who considers herself a café bum and does not understand what her father sees and seeks 'up there'. Therefore, she engages him in conversations about fundamental human issues as defined by childhood games - happiness, unhappiness, love, marriage, children, wealth, illness, death... The book reveals how these matters are perceived not only by a mature forty-something accustomed to a home hidden under the illusory safety of a tent fabric amidst high mountain glaciers, but also by a twenty-two-year-old girl whose childhood and adolescence were interspersed with many unusual events in a 'typically Czech' family. The publication is illustrated by Pavel Čech, a painter, writer, and one of the most prominent domestic comic authors. In the photographic section of the book, Radek Jaroš takes us to the peaks of his beloved Himalayan mountains and gives us a glimpse into the family photo album.
