Description

The book is the first volume in the series "Faces of Vysočina on Postage Stamps." It is dedicated to twelve personalities connected to Vysočina - individuals whose faces have been depicted on some foreign stamps, with some also receiving recognition from Czechoslovak and Czech philately. This includes the Hussite military leader and participant in the Battle of Grunwald, Jan Žižka, composer and conductor Gustav Mahler, as well as writers Jaroslav Hašek and Franz Kafka. Architects Anton Pilgram and Josef Hoffmann entered our philately through their buildings. However, their faces can only be found on foreign stamps, just like doctors Johann Florian Heller and Julius Tandler, pioneer of alpine skiing Matěj Žďárský, composer Ralph Benatzký, Austrian Federal President Franz Jonas, or footballer Matěj Šindelář.
