Description
The contents of this Czech-language thriller follow Joe Taylor, a mercenary who works for clothing giants, arranging production in factories in the developing world. He knows which factories employ children, where forced labour and blackmail take place, and where the world's most expensive handbags are burned. His knowledge and information concern his business partners, because he knows enough to ruin them if he decides to expose what he has learned. The billionaires therefore assign him another job, forgetting to mention that he is supposed to die by accident during it. Matters are further complicated by a mysterious woman who joins him and turns out to know even more than he does. Joe's dramatic, cynical and humour-filled journey towards redemption in the world of fast fashion takes him from Africa across the Indian Ocean to the Philippines, China and Cambodia, and to the borders of Tibet, Bhutan and Nepal and the high Himalayas. Rudolf Havlík's novel draws readers into the wild world of clothing production, which is often more adventurous than it may seem.
