Description

The novel with criminal elements takes place at the beginning of the 20th century in a small town beneath the estate of the Clam-Gallas counts. Vincent Hora, who risked his own life to prevent an anarchist attack at the Auersperg Castle, becomes the guardian of Jindřich Clam-Gallas, a young talented painter, a dwarf, and an alcoholic who has just been released from a mental institution. After Vincent's arrival, strange things begin to happen at the castle and in the surrounding area. Someone murders a young maid, and soon a series of other murders follows. Everything suggests that Vincent is the killer. He himself is not sure that he is not, as he is still plagued by hallucinations, leading him to doubt his mental health.
