Description
A historical novel set in the first half of the 14th century, during the turbulent times of the Czech Kingdom following the murder of Václav III. The vacant throne is taken by the husband of the Přemyslid princess Anna, Jindřich Korutanský, but dissatisfied Czech nobles are already contemplating change. At stake is the marriage of Anna's younger sister Eliška to Jan Lucemburský, the son of the Roman king. Jan becomes the Czech ruler, and when he meets the presumed murderer of Václav, Konrád z Botenštejna, at his fortress in the German town of Mulhov, he begins to investigate who killed the last Přemyslid and what motives they had. Unknowingly, he thus sets in motion power intrigues and a dramatic struggle for the future shape of the Czech state.
