Description
Marie and Paul Melzer are enjoying family life, but their happiness does not last long. The First World War has broken out, and men are being drafted to the front. Paul, as the heir of an industrial family, is initially exempt from military duty, as he is needed at home as an expert in the factory. However, he too eventually receives a call-up notice – on the very day Marie gives birth to their twins. Marie, however, is undaunted by any obstacle. She soon realizes that the Melzer textile factory is in trouble and sets out to fight for the preservation of the family legacy. Her two sisters-in-law, Kitty and Elisabeth, also need her help. Later, she receives the bad news that Paul has been captured. Shortly thereafter, his friend, the elegant Ernst von Klippstein, appears, increasingly seeking her closeness...
