Description
Young Protestant Isabelle survives with her mother in desperate conditions of constant torment at the hands of local Catholics. People of their faith are tortured, persecuted, and forced to convert to the ruling religion. However, rebel Isabelle refuses to endure the humiliation any longer. Her devotion to her ancestors' faith is ultimately tested not by fear, but by her acquaintance with Catholic soldier James. Their growing closeness is interrupted by another act of violence against Protestants, who are mercilessly expelled from the city. After a harrowing journey through France, the girl finds herself as a maid in a Catholic family. There, she is sexually assaulted, leaving her no choice but to truly convert for her own salvation. As a Catholic, she can be sent to Canada as the king's daughter.
