Description

Dita Krausová (born 1929), whose wartime experiences inspired Spanish author Antonio Iturbe to write the bestseller The Librarian of Auschwitz and who summarized her fate in the autobiography A Deferred Life (2018), now shares the life journey of her husband. Wartime events led Ota B. Kraus (1921–2000) first to the Theresienstadt ghetto, then to the hell of Auschwitz, where he worked as a caregiver in the children's block, and subsequently to a labor camp in Schwarzheide, from where he returned to Theresienstadt during the death march. In 1949, he emigrated to Israel with Dita, where they spent several years in the kibbutz Giv'at Chaim and later worked as English teachers in Hadassim. Throughout his life, Ota held a variety of jobs, but at heart, he remained a writer until his death, and his books have been translated into many world languages. The biography is accompanied by rich visual documentation and excerpts from Ota's diary.
