Description
July 1919. The First World War has ended. The devastated area of Flanders near Ypres is no longer home to soldiers but to groups of tourists. Controversial tourism now brings full buses of people to the battlefield who want to see for themselves where their loved ones fell and died. Three women arrive at the Hotel de la Paix in the village of Poperinghe to learn more about the men they loved and lost. Ruby, a shy twenty-one-year-old Englishwoman, is searching for her husband's grave. Alice, though only slightly older, is brimming with self-confidence. She has come all the way from America, convinced that her brother is still alive and remains in France. And Martha with her son Otto are not quite who they claim to be... These three women come from different backgrounds, but they are united by a desire for reconciliation: inner reconciliation for what the war took from them, but also for what life may still promise them in the future...
