Description
How can one justify an honor killing? This question led the author deep into Jordanian culture, into prisons in Aqaba, and into the endless Wadi Rum desert. She examined legal documents and newspaper archives, searching for cases of honor killings that occurred between 1995 and 2014. In the end, she compiled a list of 139 names. She found 139 women who were shot, strangled with an electric cord, burned, executed with an axe, stoned, run over, or forced to drink poison – for reasons such as rape, indecent behavior, infidelity, or simply for wearing makeup or coming home late.
