Description
The publication focuses on one of the most common personality disorders that significantly deteriorates the quality of life, especially for young people – hindering their studies, work, and interactions with peers, as well as forming and maintaining romantic relationships. The disorder is characterized by high suicidal tendencies, unstable relationships with close individuals, difficulties in maintaining employment, and also high psychiatric comorbidity, meaning the frequent concurrent occurrence of other mental health issues. The monograph addresses the diagnosis, etiopathogenesis, and treatment of this serious disorder. Emphasis is also placed on describing comorbidity, differential diagnosis, and social aspects including stigmatization and self-stigmatization. A significant portion is dedicated to psychotherapeutic approaches for individuals suffering from borderline personality disorder and pharmacological treatment, including current algorithms. The professional descriptions are supplemented with numerous case studies that vividly illustrate both the problems faced by individuals with this personality disorder and the principles of psychotherapeutic intervention. The book is intended for clinical practitioners, especially psychiatrists and clinical psychologists, but also for counseling professionals who work with individuals with borderline personality disorder in diagnostic, therapeutic, or advisory capacities.
