Description
Jindřich Halabala, the chief architect of the United UP factories since 1930, had a significant influence on shaping the company's production program, participating in product development, advertising, and sales strategy. His vision of quality housing and furniture, which should be elegantly shaped, perfectly crafted, flawlessly functional, modular, and variable, while still being accessible to the broadest layers of the population, remains an inspiring and timeless legacy. The second, expanded edition of the publication is released fifteen years after the first edition, prepared for the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Brno architect, designer, and theorist. This richly illustrated publication, awarded in 2004 in the Gloria musealis competition, is dedicated to one of the most interesting personalities of furniture design in the interwar period and provides the first comprehensive evaluation of his work and the activities of the United UP factories in Brno during the 1930s. At that time, the company was one of the largest and most progressive furniture factories in then Czechoslovakia, and products bearing the UP brand were synonymous with quality and good taste.
