Description
Eva Mozes was ten years old when she and her family were sent to Auschwitz. While her parents and two older sisters were sent to the gas chambers, Eva and her twin sister Miriam were chosen as test subjects by a man known as the Angel of Death - Dr. Josef Mengele. The girls were subjected to sadistic medical experiments and had to fight for their lives every day. In this incredible story, written by the victim of these horrifying events herself, readers witness a child's resilience against extraordinary evil. For example, Eva was exposed to an infection that Mengele believed would be fatal, allowing him to perform an autopsy on Miriam, who was to serve as a "control sample." She survived - and to this day does not know what illness it was. After the camp was liberated, the sisters founded a group that supported former victims of Mengele's experiments.
