Currently, colonoscopy plays an irreplaceable role in the diagnosis and monitoring of colorectal neoplasms and has become the method of choice in the treatment of early neoplastic lesions. It also holds a key position in the diagnosis of other colorectal diseases. Indications for colonoscopy can be divided into preventive for patients at average risk of colorectal cancer, follow-up for those at increased risk, and examinations for symptomatic patients suspected of having bowel disease. This publication is a joint work of leading Czech experts from the fields of gastroenterology, pediatric gastroenterology, surgery, and radiology.
